Today we are 3D printing the largest part for a new Skyward 150 telescope, a light baffle. Below is a timelapse of the printing in action. We can of course print these in any colour, but since the purpose is to reduce stray light, black is best from a functional standpoint. We print them in vase mode (it's like laying down the plastic in one dense slinky-like spiral) to use the least amount of plastic and achieve the nicest surface.
And here you can see the baffle being test fitted with the mirror cell and part of the truss assembly.
Sometimes it's good to be baffled.
